Concrete Cat composed by Dorthi Charles is an example of concrete poem. The poem as such is composed for the eyes to visualize. In complete poem, the words and letter are arranged in such a way that it looks like the things described. The rules of grammar are violated to create an exact picture of the subject matter of the poem. In the poem, “Concrete Cat” “A” in the “cat” has been capitalized to indicate that the ears of the cats are pointed up and “Y” in the “eye” has been capitalized to indicate that the eyes of the cats are wide open. “O” in the “mouth” has been capitalized to indicate the hanging tongue. Of the cat there are spaces between the letters in the word “Tail” to indicate black and white stripes. There is a pun in the body of the cat which suggests stripes and stripes. In this way “The Concrete Cat” is not a poem in traditional sense but it is a different type of poem, a concrete poem.
