Summary of Fear:

Fear is the psychological story taken from Puebla, Mexico. This story shows how a person loses his common sense and sanity in the state of nervousness.

Armando Gonzalez was an honest, diligent, uneducated, skeptical and chicken-hearted person working at a shoe shop. He had to earn the living of nine members. His wife Eva Gonzalez used to earn little money looking after the children of other people. With the hard work of 20 years, they have saved 50,132 pesos, which they had deposited in the Bank of Mexico. With this money, they were going to buy a beautiful house.

Deciding to buy a house Armando went to the Bank of Mexico to withdraw his fifty thousand pesos. After he gave the required documents to the bank teller, she asked him several questions loudly. The questions of the bank teller made him think that all the people in the bank lobby knew about the money, he was going to withdraw. Therefore, he became nervous. His nervousness increased, even more, when the bank teller counted the money loudly. In his nervousness, he put on his hat backward. The unusual position of his hat drew the attention of the people in the bank. But he mistakenly thought that they were looking at him for his money. In the state of nervousness, he left the bank and went to the street trying to remember the way he was supposed to go.

While Armando was waiting for the bus in the street he saw the same heavy man who had looked at him twice in the bank. He thought that he was following him to rob him. Armando got into the bus so did the heavy man. While traveling on the bus Armando came up with an idea that he should get down the bus at the next station and go home by another bus. AS he was about to get down the bus, he saw three teenage boys talking to the heavy man. Supposing them to be the part of the street gang he got down the bus.

The three boys also got down the bus. Talking o each other they walked towards Armando. Armando was sure that those three boys were sent by the heavy man to rob him. Shouting at the top of his voice, asking for help, Armando ran across the street along the barbed wire fence, into an old junkyard. As Armando fell onto the ground stumbled over the broken pieces of the car, the three boys also approached him. He asked them to go away. But he was surprised to know that they were students and were following him to help him. They also explained to him to Armando that they were talking to the heavy man on the bus to know about the bus to go back to Puebla. When Armando knew that those boys wanted to help him he got rid of unnecessary fear. Finally, all four people returned back to the street together.

This story describes a series of events and circumstances that kept on increasing fear in Armando. This story is concerned more with the effect of these events on the psychology of its main character rather than with the events themselves. Therefore, it is more psychological than a supernatural one.
